Original orange cloth, lettered black on spine. 8vo. 285pp. Fine in fine dust-wrapper. It is not price clipped and displays the original price of 30s £1.50 on inner front flap. Although bearing no ownership markings of any kind, this copy was from the personal library of Peter du Sautoy, the chairman of Faber & Faber. This intelligent thriller, set against the backdrop of war-torn Port Said in 1956 was the inaugural winner of the Booker Prize in 1969. It is scarce and arguably the rarest of all the Booker winners.
